Introduction: Patient safety in the present age is one of the main components of the quality of health services and clinical governance. One of the most important goals of the health sector is to provide patient safety. Training on safety and human factors is the most important step in ensuring the health and safety of the patient and attention to the phenomenon of professional communication is very important in reducing the incidence of medical errors. Considering the importance of patient safety and the importance of interphase communication and patient safety culture, the researcher decided to investigate "The Impact of SBAR Communication Model on Observance of Patient Safety Culture by Nurses at the Emergency Department of Shahid Beheshti Hospital in Qom 1396".
Methods: Data was collected by a safety culture questionnaire. In this semi-experimental study, 64 nurses from the emergency department of Shahid Beheshti Medical Center in Qom in 1396 were selected and randomly assigned to two groups of 32 intervention and control group 32. After completing the safety culture questionnaire by nurses in two groups, intervention and Control as a pre-test, SBAR Communication Skills Training Program for the intervention group, including teaching a communication booklet and safety culture and SBAR communication model, began for two sessions of two hours. All participants were asked to complete the safety culture questionnaire two weeks after the training sessions.
Results: Comparison of the subscales of safety culture and the total score of safety culture in intervention and control groups did not show any significant difference before intervention in intervention nurses (P=0/120) . But after the intervention, the mean of safety culture and safety culture in the intervention group was significantly more than the control group, which was statistically significant (p <0.001).
Conclusion: The results showed that, two weeks after the intervention, the safety culture score in the intervention group was increased in comparison with the control group. This means that interventions over time have increased the patient's safety culture in emergency nurses, So using this type of training along with other patient safety enhancements will improve the safety culture and ultimately enhance the quality of care and reduce unwanted injuries.
