Introduction: Nursing students who are forced to make decisions at the patient's bedside in critical situations need a good internal ego strength to pass their student life and succeed in their career. Therefore, Therefore, the present study is aimed to investigate to investigate the pattern of enhancing the inner strength of the ego based on the decision-making styles and tolerance of emotional distress with the mediation of mindfulness in the female nursing students of the Islamic Azad University of Ahvaz, which was conducted in the academic year 2021-2022.
Methods: This research was correlational type using causal modeling and structural equation modeling. The statistical population of this research includes all nursing students of Islamic Azad University in the academic year of 2001-2001. The sample of the present study included 220 people who were selected by purposive sampling method. In order to measure the variables, the internal strength questionnaires of Lewis and Dingley et al. (2003), the decision-making styles questionnaire of Scott and Bruce (1995), the emotional distress tolerance questionnaire of Simmons and Gaher (2005), and the mindfulness scale of Brown and Ryan (2003), was used. In this research, Pearson's correlation method and path analysis were used and its results were analyzed. To analyze the data, Pearson correlation and structural equation modeling were used using SPSS-23 and AMOS-23 software.
Results: The statistical results showed that intuitive, dependent, avoidant and mindfulness decision-making styles have a direct effect on the inner strength of the ego, and logical, intuitive, avoidant and emotional distress tolerance decision-making styles have a direct effect on mindfulness (p<0.01). Also, the results indicate the significance of the indirect path of logical, intuitive, avoidant decision-making styles and tolerance of emotional distress to the inner strength of the ego with the mediating role of mindfulness of nursing students (p<0.01).
Conclusions: The results of this research showed that the final research model fits the collected data. Therefore, the attention of education centers, and higher education centers to the role of effective factors in promoting the inner strength of the ego and creating a healthy career background, especially for nurses, is one of the necessities of this research.
