The Effect of Benson's relaxation on sleep quality in patients undergoing hemodialysis

Background: One of the most common problems in hemodialysis patients with sleep disorders. Unpleasant consequences of poor sleep quality, physical, psychological and social. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Benson relaxation on sleep quality in patients undergoing hemodialysis Ilam province.
Patients and Methods: This triple blind clinical trial study with repeated measurements at five intervals, before the intervention, immediately after intervention and one, two and three months after treatment on 70 patients undergoing hemodialysis in Ilam province 95 -2016 was conducted. The samples selected by census method and were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Benson relaxation intervention on the basis of 15 minutes twice a day for four weeks. Data from demographic data sheet and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Scale (PQSI) was entered in SPSS 16 software using descriptive statistics and inferential tests (paired t test, analysis of variance for repeated measures, post hoc tests SNK, Duncan, Scheffe and Tukey) were analyzed
Results: The results showed that the quality of patients' sleep before the intervention and control groups showed no significant difference. After the interval immediately after the intervention, patients' sleep quality, two weeks later, one and two months after the intervention, the intervention group had improved sleep quality.
Conclusion: Considering the positive effect of Benson relaxation technique in improving sleep quality in clinical care by nurses recommended its implementation.
