Violence during clinical training among nursing students of Zanjan universities of medical sciences

| Introduction: Workplace violence is the part of workplace hazards. When nursing students in a practice setting encounter horizontal violence, their approach to practice, as well as their intent to become a nurse, can be influenced. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of violence during clinical training among nursing students.
Methods: In this descriptive study, all of nursing students (82) that have inclusion criteria were entered into study. Data were collected with questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS v.11.
Results: Of the total studied subjects, 18.3% reported physical attack, 9.8% physical threat and 23.2% verbal abuse in the previous 12-months period. Most of physical attacks were caused by patients (33.3%) and their relatives (33.3%), physical threat by nurses (16.6%) and verbal abuse by nurses (28.5%) and patient's relatives (25%). Most of violence was in internal, surgery, pediatric and dialysis wards. There is no significant difference between sex and different years with violence (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Nursing students are at great risk for violence due to little age and inadequate experience. Therefore planning educational programs about violence, prevention, supporting and consulting after violence are necessary. |
