The nature of this disease and it is complications lead to economical burden and also reduction of quality of life This study aimed to examine the effect of the patient education on self-efficiency in patients suffering from type 2 diabetes. Method: This interventional study was conducted with 70 patients who were suffering from type 2 diabetes in a teaching hospital in Tehran, Iran The patients were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. The patients in the intervention group received the patient education including total confined time and phone consulting 8 weeks after the discharge of patients from the hospital. To collect data, the DMSES questionnaire was used. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics via the SPSS software. Results: The patients in the intervention group showed a considerable increase in self-efficiency in comparison to the patients in the control group (p = 0.000). Conclusion: The patient education led to the improvement of self-efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes.
