Quality Of Life in elderly people of west of Tehran

Introduction: The importance of quality of life (QoL) among elderly people increases as individuals live longer,. The purpose of this study was to determine quality of life among elderly people living in west of Tehran. Methods: This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. Through multi-stage sampling method, 410 elderly people who over 60 years old and cognitively intact were selected to contribute in the study. The Short Form Health Survey (SF12) questionnaire was utilized to collect data via interview. The data analysed using descriptive statistics, t-test and ANOVA. Results: The mean QoL score of the participants was 32.84 (SD=8.89, range 12-48), indicating moderate QoL. Furthermore, there were significant differences between QoL of the elderly with gender, level of education, economic status and present health status (P<0.05). Conclusion: Because of the fact that different factors affect quality of life, or even threat it, therefore, considering background factors is very important. So, planning should turn its focus on promoting social contribution, improving medical and health services for elderly people.
