Introduction: The elderly are exposed to psychological and social harms due to various physical, occupational, social and other limitations. Symptoms of depression are common during this period and can increase the rate of vulnerability. The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of emotion efficacy therapy on the level of depression and self-care ability of non-clinical depressed elderly.
Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest and control group. The statistical population included all elderly people with depressive symptoms who were members of the Sari Jahangidegan House in 1398. Of these, 30 were randomly selected and randomly assigned to the experimental group (15 subjects) and the control group (15 subjects). Data collection tools included the Geriatric Depression Scale and the Elderly Self-Care Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS-21 software and through analysis of covariance.
Results: The results showed that emotion efficacy therapy was effective in improving the symptoms of depression and self-care ability of non-clinical depressed elderly (P <0.05).
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, emotion efficacy therapy can be an effective intervention in improving the symptoms of depression and strengthening the self-care ability in depressed elderly.
