The mediating role of self-transcendence in the relationship between perceived stress and Professional quality of life of nurses

Introduction: Nurses work long hours, and the growing demand for health services can affect their mental health and Quality of professional life. The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of self-transcendence in the relationship between perceived stress and Professional quality of life of nurses. 
Methods:: This study was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included all nurses working in public and private hospitals in Birjand in 1399 (N = 795). The research sample included 440 nurses. Participants were selected by convenience sampling method. They answered Perceived Stress Scale, the subscale Self-transcendence the Temperament and Character Questionnaire and the Professional Quality of Life Questionnaire. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling and SPSS22 and LISREL8.8 Software.
Results: The results showed that the direct path of perceived stress to self-transcendence was negative and significant and direct path of perceived stress to to professional quality of life was positive and significant. The direct path of self-transcendence (p<0.01) to professional quality of life (p<0.01) is negative and significant. In addition, indicated that the indirect path perceived stress to professional quality of life through self-transcendence was significant (p<0.01).   
Conclusions: The findings of this study support the mediating role self-transcendence in the relationship between perceived stress and professional quality of life. These findings indicate that self-transcendence can play a significant indirect role in reducing the negative effects of perceived stress on the professional quality of life of nurses.
