Studying the Relationship between Spiritual Intelligence and General Health in Undergraduate Students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences

Introduction: Spiritual intelligence is one of the factors affecting general health that is important in improving the spirituality of students. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between spiritual intelligence and general health in undergraduate students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences.
Methods: This study is a descriptive-correlational type. The research population includes all undergraduate students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences, 1105 people, and the sample size is 213 people according to the Morgan and Krejci table, who were selected by random stratification method and were selected by available sampling method. To collect data, a questionnaire including demographic information, the 42-item spiritual intelligence questionnaire of Badie et al., and the Persian version of the 28-item Goldberg general health questionnaire were used. The data were analyzed using the SPSS-23 statistical program and independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance, correlation coefficients, and linear regression.
Results: The findings showed that with increasing spiritual intelligence, general health increases. Also, there is no significant relationship between gender, academic term, economic status, and marital status with spiritual intelligence score, while with increasing grade point average, spiritual intelligence also increased. On the other hand, the findings indicated that people living in dormitories have higher spiritual intelligence than other people. Also, with increasing age, the level of spiritual intelligence decreases. The average general health score of students is in the desirable and somewhat desirable category, such that 63.4 percent are in the desirable group, 35.2 percent are in the somewhat desirable group, and 1.4 percent are in the undesirable category. In this study, among the dimensions of general health, the highest average is related to the anxiety dimension and the lowest average is related to depression. There was no significant relationship between general health and age, gender, residential status, academic term, marital status, and economic status. Only grade point average has a significant relationship with general health.
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that improving spiritual intelligence increases the general health of students, and since medical sciences have special sensitivities and are considered high-stress fields, it is necessary to know the factors that improve students› mental health. Spirituality can increase mental health and help ensure students› mental health.
