Abstract:   (645 Views)
Introduction: Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system that has several clinical manifestations. this research was conducted with the aim of investigating the effectiveness of memory specificity training on autobiographical memory, episodic future thinking and social problems solving of women with multiple sclerosis.
Methods: It was conducted as a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a one-month follow-up period. the statistical population was all women with multiple sclerosis who were members of the arak MS association, 28 of whom were selected by purposive sampling and randomly assigned to the memory specificity training group and the control group (two groups of 14 people). the test group was trained in a group once a week for 80 minutes (during 6 sessions). data were collected using the autobiographical memory tests of Williams and Broadbent (1986), episodic future thinking of Halford (2018), and social problems solving of D'zurilla et al (2002) and analyzed using the repeated measures analysis of variance test using spss-24 software.
Results: There is a significant difference between the average scores of the pre-test, post-test and follow-up variables (p<0.001). There is also an interaction effect for autobiographical memory (F=61.68), episodic future thinking (F=45.89) and social problem solving (F=29.78) (p<0.001).
Conclusion: Considering the effectiveness of memory specificity training on autobiographical memory, episodic future thinking and social problems solving of women with multiple sclerosis, it is recommended to use this treatment method to improve cognitive deficits in women with MS.
