Comparative Study of Medical and Surgical Nursing Master's Education Program in IRAN and USA

Introduction: With the increase of expectations of patients, the expansion of medical science, the need for professional advancement in nursing and the shortage of specialized nursing staff, providing a training program related to the need to train skilled and capable nurses is essential. This study aimed to compare and evaluate the medical surgical nursing masterchr('39')s education program in IRAN and USA.
Methods: This review-comparative study conducted in 2020. First, a top university in the world selected through an Internet search, then required information collected and compared using Bereday’s four-stage model.
Results: The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing has a long history of establishing the school and the course. The philosophy, mission and perspective of the medical surgical nursing program in Iran, unlike in the United States, defined independently. The general objectives of the course uniquely formulated in both nursing schools. Student admission in Iran is centralized and based on a written test, but the educational, research, skills, legal and regulatory conditions of candidates in the United States examined by objective criteria and student admission followed by a decentralized pattern. Except for a few units, other units in this course are overlapping in Iran and the United States. In addition, the duration of this course in the United States is 6 semesters and in Iran is 4 semesters.
Disscussion and Conclusion: including content on policy and management in definition of the course, including content on international cooperation in course philosophy, including the need to achieve a superior position and expertise in course mission, specialization of the course to acute and chronic diseases at two levels of prevention, adaptation the general goals and content of the courses to the philosophy and mission of the course and the admission of students with objective indicators, to improve the curriculum of medical and surgical nursing  are offered in Iran.
