Background: Studying in medical sciences, especially nursing, exposes students to academic burnout; Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the role of health-promoting lifestyle in the academic burnout of nursing students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Methods:The present study is a cross-sectional descriptive-correlation study that was conducted in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2022. The samples of the research included 200 undergraduate nursing students who had completed at least one academic semester, who were selected through available sampling. The demographic profile form and two questionnaires, including Walker's Health Promoting Lifestyle Questionnaire (1990) and maslach's Academic Burnout Questionnaire (2002) were completed by students in a self-reported manner. Data analysis using the descriptive statistics test (frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation), inferential statistics (chi-square or Fisher's exact test, the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman correlation coefficient) And SPSS software version 22 was done. Results:The average score of health promoting lifestyle in nursing students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences was 125.06 ± 19.21 and the average score of academic burnout was 43.88 ± 8.97. Also, based on the results of the Spearman's correlation coefficient test, there was a significant and negative relationship between health-promoting lifestyle variables and academic burnout (r =-0.299, P < 0.001). In addition, there is a negative and meaningful relationship between the components of stress management and self-actualization with the components of emotional exhaustion (r=-0.226, P=0.001) (r=-0.146, P=0.039) and Academic ineffectiveness (r =- 0.313, P < 0.001) (r =- 0.287, P < 0.001). Also, A negative and significant relationship was observed between interpersonal support component with doubt and pessimism (r =-0.177, P = 0.012) and with academic ineffectiveness (r =-0.210, P < 0.001). Conclusion: Considering the existence of academic burnout in nursing students of Tehran University of Medical Sciences; Therefore, it is recommended to consider the role of health-promoting lifestyle in reducing academic burnout. It is also recommended that administrators, in educational planning, provide the necessary measures and facilities to improve students' lifestyles and in line with that, reduce academic burnout.
