The effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on following the doctor's order and quality of life in type 2 diabetic patients of Shohada ZirAab Hospital

Introduction: Diabetes is a chronic disease that widely affects the lives of patients and adherence to treatment and hope is an important component in the successful management of the disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on following the physician's instructions and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes of Shohada ZirAab Hospital.
Methods: The present study was a quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design and control group. The statistical population of the present study included all diabetic patients referred to the Diabetes Clinic of Savadkooh Shohada ZirAab Hospital.in 1399. Thirty people were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental groups (15 people) and control groups (15 people). The experimental group underwent 8 sessions of 90 minutes of cognitive-behavioral therapy and no action was taken for the control group. Data collection tools included quality of life questionnaire and general adherence scale.
Results: The results show that by controlling the pre-test scores, the effect of the group on the post-test score of the variable was overall compliance (P = 0.001, F = 56.73) and quality of life (Lambda Wickles = 0.07, p<, 0.001, F=21/59) is significant. Cognitive-behavioral therapy has significantly increased the variable scores of overall adherence and quality of life in the intervention group compared to the control group.
Conclusion: According to the results of the intervention, cognitive-behavioral therapy can help chronic patients to increase compliance with physician instructions and hope.
