Abstract:   (109 Views)
Introduction: Spinal cord injury and the formation of lesions can affect all aspects of an individual's life, with the impact on social aspects being particularly pronounced. Consequently, individuals with spinal cord injuries often experience issues related to feelings of rejection and social adequacy.
Method: The research employed a semi-experimental method using a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population included all individuals with spinal cord injuries in Lordegan County in 2023. Using purposive sampling, 45 qualified volunteers were included in the study and randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. Data collection tools included the Interpersonal Sensitivity Questionnaire by Bies and Parker (1989) and the Social Adequacy Questionnaire by Burmester et al. (1988). Emotion-focused psychotherapy was conducted over 9 sessions of 90 minutes each, while cognitive restructuring therapy was conducted over 8 sessions of 90 minutes each, both in person. Data analysis was performed using SPSS.v21, employing repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. A significance level of 0.05 was considered for this study.

Findings: Results from the multivariate analysis of covariance indicated that emotion-focused psychotherapy had a significant effect on improving feelings of rejection and social adequacy in individuals with spinal cord injuries. Additionally, cognitive restructuring therapy also had a significant effect on improving feelings of rejection and social adequacy. Furthermore, results from the Bonferroni post hoc test showed that emotion-focused psychotherapy was more effective than cognitive restructuring therapy in enhancing feelings of rejection and social adequacy in individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, the use of emotion-focused psychotherapy is recommended for improving feelings of rejection and social adequacy in individuals with spinal cord injuries.
