Introduction: Caring for a disabled child has many complications and can have negative psychological and social consequences for parents. The present study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of compassion-based parenting on feelings of shame and post-traumatic growth in mothers with children with physical-mental disabilities. Methods: The present research was a semi-experimental design of pre-test-post-test-follow-up type with the control group. The statistical population included the students of Imam Javad educational center for children with special needs in Sari in 1401-1402, from which 30 children were select, and their mothers were randomly assigned to the intervention group of compassionate parenting or the control group. For the experimental group, 8 weekly 60-minute sessions of compassion-based parenting were implemented. No intervention was performed for the control group. At the beginning and after completing of the intervention sessions also one month later, all participants completed the guilt and shame scale and the post-traumatic growth questionnaire. The data were analyzed using the repeated analysis of variance test. Results:The results showed that the compassion-based parenting significantly reduces shame and increases post-traumatic growth in mothers with children with physical-mental disabilities (p<0.001). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the feeling of shame and post-traumatic growth in mothers with children with physical-mental disabilities can be corrected through the compassion-based parenting.
