Abstract Introduction:The job burnout of academic staff members can cause a decrease in the performance of professors and as a result disrupt their belief and research self-efficacy. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between research self-efficacy and the job burnout of academic staff members of Islamic Azad University, Najaf Abad branch. Methods:In this descriptive correlational study, 180 faculty members of Azad University of Najaf Abad were included in the study. The data was collected online through two standard job burnout questionnaires by Moslesh and Jackson and self-efficacy questionnaire by Phillips and Russell. The data was analyzed in spss V22 software and with statistical tests. Findings: In this study, the research self-efficacy of the samples, with an average of 197.46±56.99, was at the desired level, and job burnout was in the low range with an average of 45.46±13.83. The components related to job burnout (emotional fatigue, depersonalization, feeling of personal failure) were at a low level. The components related to research self-efficacy abilities (question design, operational, computer and quantitative research, writing) were at an average level. A significant correlation was observed between research self-efficacy with depersonalization (p < 0.001) and the feeling of personal failure (p < 0.05). However, no significant correlation was observed between research self-efficacy and the total score of job burnout and emotional exhaustion (p >0.05). Conclusion:According to the results of the present study, it is suggested that the university managers take an effective action to increase the motivation of effective research among the professors by holding workshops related to research.
